Since 1922, when sculptor Solon Borglum established an artist’s guild here, Silvermine has drawn the artist from across Connecticut and the northeast to enhance and share their love for all aspects of art. One of the unique aspects of Silvermine is its dedication to learning from, and with, professionals. There are over 300 professional artists and 4,500 annual enrollments at Silvermine, located in Fairfield County. There are hundreds of art courses divided into 21 categories including photography. Currently there are over 2 dozen photography classes listed including photography basics, photography for youth, intermediate and advanced courses. Technical courses such as lighting, pinhole photography, art of black & white, art photography, film developing and even post-picture courses such as matting and framing are offered, as well as many more. In addition, several field trips are offered to area parks where participants practice and hone their image capturing skills.
